About Prayer:
Prayer is simply talking to God. We have access to God through Jesus Christ; when you make Jesus "Lord" of your life, you will begin to live his way, not yours. The Holy Spirit is given for power, ask Jesus for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Ask him to give you a biblical way for you to know that you have received Him. God will answer your prayer. Remember, there is NOTHING to hard for God! From this point forward take everything to the Lord in prayer.
About The Bible:
Get a bible (one that you can understand) New American Standard, New International Version, The Open Bible, If you have trouble reading, get an Audio Bible (on CD, DVD or Cassette)-- The King James Bible is simply "old English". If you want to understand The King James Version (you can), ask the Holy Spirit to show you how to understand it. Start reading in the New Testament, and the "Gospels" (Your Bible has a Table Of Contents use it, don't be ashamed. Everybody has to start somewhere, and everybody had to learn), a good starting point is the Book of John, read the Epistles (Letters) small books, as your understanding grows you will be able to read Old Testament stories which are types and shadows of Jesus (telling about Jesus) before he was born. The Word is designed to renew your mind (change the way you see things and think) God through Jesus Christ, by his Spirit, will heal every hurt, in every area of your life if you will let Him. God placed promises in the Word, find his promises about your life and continue to say them (out loud to yourself), they will happen.
About Church:
Find a bible believing church. The church your parents went to may not be the right church for you. Some people due to their past need more guidance than others, some churches (denominations) allow more freedom than others. You will know what the right church is for you. Make sure they "teach" the word of God. Take your bible to church with you. Find the scr i ptures for yourself. You have had the experiences you have because God allowed you to have them. Don't be caught off guard, people in church are still "people", they are still on the road to recovery just like you. Some may be farther along, but your overall guide is your bible "The Word" it will not change. Think of a church in the same manner you would a "spiritual hospital" everyone is trying to get well.
