Nationaly 1 out of every 10 people will go to bed hungry tonight. In my area that stat is 1 out of 6. The faces of those in need has changed. No longer is this an just an inner city problem, no longer is it someone elses issue - today it is an issue that working families face everyday.
The face of hunger could be your neighbor, your friend - it could even be you. Families that never thought they would be one of those in need are the ones that are filling our food banks and pantries. Our families are making difficult choices,-"Do we feed the family or pay the electric bill? Do we buy milk for the baby or put a gallon of gas in the car to make it to work tomarrow?"
This problem is HUGE! And we haven't even touched the tip of it! As a Natural health professional I know the importance of great nutrition. Have you visited your local pantry lately? Much like the general diet of many, the food banks and pantries are void of nutriton! Good nutrition makes happy, healthy, productive, motivated, creative people.
Great nutriton gives the ability to rise above the circumstances of life, to thrive instead of just survive.
So what can we do about it?
Go back to the garden. In the garden of eden, God created everything we need to be healthy and strong. In the garden, God created, provisional grace. In the garden, Adam and Eve ate something God never intended for food. And like the children of isreal we continue to go round that same mountain!
We were never intended to eat polypropalene glycol (anti freeze) found in ice cream. We were never intended to eat things one molecule away from plastic (margerine). We were never intended to eat pesticides, herbacides or chemicals or toxic waste.
Let's make history!
To my knowledge, no one has ever planted a community garden for the sole purpose of feeding the hungry. Gardens of Grace is a 1 acre parcel donated for this very purpose. This will be a provisional place of God's grace to the community. It will provide chemical free nutrition in the form of fresh fruits and vegetables to those in need. We will experience the laws of sowing and reaping in a practical hands on or physical way. It is by design bringing a community together to bridge the gaps of nutrition. Intertwinning denominations and standing together as town known for mercy and grace. Touching lives throughout Wexford and Missaukee counties.
Check back often as I will be posting pictures and updates on this project.
